Garden Cloches, Frames, Greenhouses and Ground or Walk in polythene tunnels along with modern Horticultural Fleece, are all designed to give your plants and vegetables extra protection from the elements. Cloches are effective and invaluable garden tools for the winter vegetable garden and enable the growing season to be extended and for some hardy organic vegetables to be grown year round. They allow the soil to be warmed up early in the season to give you a head start and they also help protect plants from the wind, cats and birds.

Cloches originated in France and were made from solid glass shaped like a bell. The glass cloche was designed to be placed over the plant when the risk of frost or bad weather was forecast in order to protect it. Today cloches come in many shapes the best are still made from glass but it is possible to get them in plastic too.

You can even make an effective garden cloche cheaply for yourself. To do this simply shape pieces of wire in a U shape it needs to be long enough to secure the ends into the soil leaving sufficient height to give apply clearance over the plant it is going to protect. You need to place these at each end of your planting and again every 18-20 inches. Then take a length of clear plastic sheeting and place it over the wires to form a tunnel shape and secure at each end. Make sure you can roll the sides up to water and weed as required and to give extra light on those warmer winter days.

Although Garden Cloches offer some protection against frost, a heated greenhouse or frame is really the best guarantee against frost damage. But cloches will help minimise damage caused to winter vegetables by the lethal combination of freezing temperatures and cold winds.
Protected cropping enables earlier sowing and planting of popular vegetables such as lettuce, onion and salad leaves. It also increases the likelihood, particularly in the more northern areas, of achieving a reasonable crop of many half hardy vegetables like tomatoes, peppers and aubergines.

Using the same method it is also possible to extend the growing season well into the autumn allowing later sowing and later picking of many varieties of vegetables. With protected cropping it is also possible to produce crops of winter vegetables like corn salad and lambs lettuce as well as late and early radish and spring onion.

To get the best results from the winter vegetable garden using cloches, the soil must also be as fertile as possible, with an ample amount of well rotted organic material worked in.

Organic Dad takes a look at an Aquaponics System and Reviews a Simple Home Made System.

What is an Aquaponics System what are the benefits and can it be built by me!

What is Aquaponins all about if you have heard of or tried Hydroponic gardening then you will have the basics! – Have you ever thought about turning your garage into a greenhouse with a minimal expense and effort? If you love freshly harvested vegetables and love fish, then it is high time that you did something for you and your family and the ideal thing you can do is provide them fresh ingredients for delicious and nourishing meals. Once you find out how, you will not be reliant on the market again! No more genetically modified vegetables, no more preservatives injected to keep them fresh for a longer time, only organic, healthy food grown in your garage or inside your home or backyard.
The greatest thing about aquaponic farming is that it does not need any land, Thus you will not need to get dirty and do hard Labour in order to produce your vegetables on the table. You need just a lighted space where you can place this wonderful system made up of an aquarium and some other pots for growing vegetables. So, no ground, no dirt, no labour! You will be able to locate it anywhere in the house, you can even begin this type of farming in your flat!

But what is this form of farming? Well it is known as aquaponics and it is a much better version of hydroponic gardening. If in hydroponics you can only grow plants, which most of the occasions needed fertilizers to grow typically, in an aquaponics system you will also grow fish and use their aquarium for feeding your plants. This way you will no longer need any type of fertilizer to make your veggies grow large and stunning, as the fish will provide them with all the nutrients they require. In change, the plants will clean the water, therefore providing your fish with a clean and oxygen rich natural environment.

So, you will not only produce organic vegetables grown in your own property, but you will also produce fresh fish for your meals or just for decoration if you are a vegetarian. This is not all! You can put the aquaponic system so that it will be at your arm’s reach, so that you will not need to bend down in order to harvest your crops. Therefore, less work and more comfort for you!

Aquaponics System Review

Aquaponis 4 you is a simple easy to follow step by step guide to building your own Aquaponics System. This valuable guide tells you everything you need to know to build a cheap automated system from simple components available from your local hardware store and aquatics center. You and your family will soon be eating fresh organic vegetables at a fraction of the cost throughout the year. The minimal cost of Aquaponis 4 you is well worth the investment not only is this an interesting hobby to enjoy you also benefit from organic food on tap!

To sum up an Aquaponics System is the ideal solution for getting fresh vegetables and keeping fish in the comfort of your home or even in your garage! It will take you just a few minutes each day to look after of your plants! In addition you can have it with very little effort and money, so this is one particular convenient way to reduce your costs with food! Do not waste any more time and start your aquaponics system as soon as possible for fresh veggies and even tasty fish straight from your own home!

Vegetable Gardening for Beginners Organic Dad’s guide to getting started with Organic Gardening and How to Grow Organic Food

Organic Vegetable Gardening For Beginners. The first and most important step is choosing an area for your your garden, ideally you want to locate it in a spot that gets the maximum sun a good spot would get at least six hours of full sun a day. Additionally also in an area that is protected from wind. Vegetable plants need air to grow but strong or cold winds can damage plants especially tender young ones. Check the soil condition an area that is water logged will not be suitable for example, creating a raised bed vegetable garden may be an option to get around many soil problems. You should also consider your water source location, since your plants are going to be watered every day.

Once you have determined exactly where your organic vegetable garden is going to be located, you need to prepare the soil for planting. One of the best kept secrets of experienced organic gardeners is to test their soil before they plant. By testing the soil for pH, you can take whatever action is necessary to produce an abundant organic crop a simple kit is available at most garden centres and suppliers.

GUIDE TO GARDENING FOR BEGINNERS **SPECIAL OFFER WITH OUR BONUS**

Organic Gardening For Beginners Tip. Start Composting as soon as possible, your new organic garden will require plenty of fertilizer before and after planting, and this need is easily met with a compost pile. Kitchen scraps, coffee grounds, tea leaves, fallen leaves and dried grass clippings will all make great organic compost material.

Once you have done the ground work now is the fun part deciding which vegetables you wont to grow, as a rule of thumb the more expensive a vegetable is to buy the harder it is to grow! But do not be put off experiment with your favourite foods and keep notes on what and how well they grew. Plan your planting so you can get the most from your garden in most areas it is possible to grow vegetables throughout the year.
Keep a watchful eye on your vegetables as they grow. It is particularly important to keep plants well watered especially in hot conditions and during the fruiting season. Mulching your garden will help retain moisture in your soil and improve its quality. Look out for pests if they are not controlled they will soon ruin any crop, many organic sprays are available to deal with most attacks do not be tempted to use non organic sprays or pesticides.

Watching your own vegetables grow is very rewarding, anticipating the delicious experience of enjoying fresh organic vegetables with your meal makes all the hard work so worthwhile.

Planning an Organic Vegetable Garden

Vegetable Garden Planning is the fundamental key to successfully growing your own organic vegetables.

Most of us only have space for a small kitchen garden where we would like to grow your own range of vegetables and fruit to feed ourselves and our families on fresh organic fruit and vegetables throughout the year. The traditional method of planning a vegetable garden is to plan well in advance and then you could hope for two or even three crops from your plot in a single season. This involves a lot of work, before you start you must prepare your plot well make sure any weeds or there roots have been removed. If you have a large garden or allotment a Rotavator or Cultivator could always come in useful, if not it is back to the old fork and spade! Always digging in plenty of fresh manure and organic compost. Usually for this method I would like start a new plot in the autumn and let in over winter before raking and planting my first crop.

Plants take a variety of times to mature some fast kinds such as baby spinach leaves, lettuce and salad leaves can be ready to eat in 10-15 weeks. Whilst other bigger and slower growing crops will take much longer. So planning a vegetable garden is most important by inter cropping or carefully planting these crops together you can harvest the quicker growing plants before the others have grown big enough to occupy there space.

By June early potatoes are ready to be dug, you can then follow on with frost tender plants like courgette or French beans. Crops that are cleared early in summer can be replaced by spring cabbage or winter cauliflower or a last sowing of fast maturing salad.
By planning a vegetable garden and with the aid of cloches and other crop protections your growing season can carry on throughout the year. It may sound complicated to the beginner but with careful reading and some thought organic gardening and planning a vegetable garden will soon be second nature.

Vegetable Garden Planning a 4 Year Crop Rotation Plan

One important factor in planning a traditional organic vegetable garden is to rotate your crops a four year – four bed cycle is recommended, this will help prevent disease building up and allow valuable nutrients to be replaced. Grow plants from the same family together in each bed and then move them on to the next bed the following year, so by year four they are back were they started.

For an in depth guide to organic gardening this beginners manual is well worth purchasing. It is an easy to read step by step guide to growing your own organic vegetable and planning a vegetable garden. It is well written and takes you clearly and logically through the process, with tons of great tips and useful information it really is a must have for anyone starting out on their own organic gardening adventure.
